This is my top 10 tips for planning the perfect wedding reception. 1.Keep in mind that the guests are going to be where the wedding couple is. If you're on the dance floor, that's where your guests will be too. 2.Don't micromanage the timeline. We do want the order of events that are going to occur, but we don't need the exact time of each. 4.If there are older guests try not to sit them close or right in front of the speakers. 5.Don't put the DJ in an obscure corner or location in the room, they need to be close to the dance floor to be able to read the crowd. 6.If you have dance floor lighting you don't want to make it too bright. You don't want to blind your guests as they're dancing on the dance floor. 7.If you have a bar or a photo booth you want to keep them in the main room where the DJ is. You want to keep all your guests as close to the dance floor as possible. 8.When picking the songs for your wedding take into account not only your tastes, but the taste of your guests as well. 9.You always want to leave your guests wanting more. It's not your responsibility to entertain them until 2 a.m. 10. When picking your music you don't have to overdo it, pick 10 or 20 songs that you like and leave the rest to the DJ to fill in for you. Your Wedding Ceremony
To ensure that your wedding day is the best it can be it’s important to ensure that you include all of the important elements in a timely fashion. This means that you need to have at least a basic list and schedule of events, often known as a “wedding ceremony timeline.” While there is no standard wedding ceremony order, there are elements that need to be present. We will go over what’s needed and optional ones below.
First, determine whether you want your attendees to sign the wedding certificate or marriage license. This is not that common anymore, but it is an option to consider, especially if you have a small, more intimate wedding. Consider whether you want literature, love poetry, or religious wedding readings to be read during the early part of the ceremony. The wedding processional is the entrance of a partner, the wedding party, and the second partner. Determine what romantic ceremony music is to be playing, especially when the second partner starts walking in. Do you want to have more of a traditional flavor, such as “Here Comes The Bride,” or do you want more contemporary music such as Natalie & Nat King Coles’ “Unforgettable”? Decide how you will exchange your wedding rings. Will you state standard wedding vows, or will you write and state your own specific vows? If you plan on doing your own specific vows, decide on whether you want to go over them together before the big day. This is especially true if you come from different faiths, as you may want to incorporate different religious references in your vows and want to be sure you are unified in your vows ahead of time. Decide upon how the ceremony will be recognized. Will there be a community commitment to support the marriage or an officiant (priest, rabbi, etc.) present to officially recognize it and bless the marriage? After this recognition and declaration of the marriage, the couple usually seals their first kiss as a married couple. They then leave down the centre aisle. After a period of time, the attendees will leave. There may be pictures taken outside, as the wedding couple will enter a limousine, a horse carriage, or some other form of transportation to be taken to the reception hall where the reception will take place. There may even be a “Just Married” sign on the back of the vehicle. For a wedding to have the special meaning it is intended to, it is important to set up a program of all of the elements that you want included in it and in the proper order. You want to decide upon the opening readings and/or music, as well as the music for the entrance of the wedding party. All of these elements should be considered in order to ensure that your wedding ceremony will be as memorable as it should be for you, your partner and for all who attend. One of the most important things that I bring to an initial consultation with a wedding couple is a copy of a wedding day emergency kit. I always get an odd look when I give it to them. I guess they are thinking, “ What is this thing for?” or “What’s the catch?” In all honesty there is never a catch. While the wedding itself is the most important event of the day, the wedding reception is a close second. This is where you as the new couple, along with all of those who attended the wedding and perhaps a few more guests will go to celebrate the wedding.
The reception will be less formal and more of a chance to let “your hair hang down,” relax, and have fun. Below, we will explore how to plan the reception so that a good time Is had by all. Always keep in mind the reason behind the reception. It’s likely that not everything is going to go according to plan, and that’s okay. Don’t let that ruin your evening. This reception is to be the start of your life journey together in holy matrimony, so don’t let an unforeseen problem put a damper on this evening or on your marriage. You should let any problems that crop up to not ruin the mood and atmosphere of this evening. Be sure to keep your guests in mind; you want to be confident that they are enjoying themselves as well. Most of your guests will probably have spent a good amount of money and time to be here so you want to make sure that they are finding the atmosphere and event worthwhile. The reception should reflect your personality, including your humor, tastes, and preferences, so as to remind guests what makes you, you. Decide on a specific style or theme you want your reception to have. This will also help you to determine where you will hold the reception. Do you want the reception to be a large gathering or a smaller, more intimate group? Do you want the reception to be more formal or informal? This also includes whether you want the meal to be more fancy or more casual. The theme or style can be based upon your favourite colour(s) or something that is more complex, such as a specific time period that appeals to the two of you, a specific genre of music, or your favourite season. Be sure to set your budget ahead of time so you can include and eliminate sites right away. This will help you move closer to your ideal site quicker. Be sure to take into account the money that will be needed for decorations and centrepieces, food and beverages, music, the wedding cake and the site itself. Try to narrow down your ideal site to eight to nine sites right away. You can then call each one to see if they have availability on your wedding date. This can help to narrow down the choices even more. You can then see if they have all the facilities and room necessary to accommodate your party. Then, you can schedule appointments to visit the venue to get a better idea if this will fit your dream reception or not. Be sure to have your list of questions handy so that you can truly determine which sites will make the final cut before deciding upon which site will be the one. Choosing the proper wedding reception venue and having the best theme or style will take some planning ahead of time. You want to have the right theme or style that reflects your personality. Choosing A Wedding Venue
Next on your agenda is your wedding venues and which one you will choose. There are two parts to that with the first being to decide where you are going to get married. In a church, at a local park, in your own garden or at a beach. Then you need to decide where to hold your wedding reception.
It is so important to really think about both of these venues and plan carefully to ensure that your special day turns out in the way you want it. Your wedding reception is where family and friends gather after you have married to celebrate via food, drink, dancing and music. This place has to have enough room to comfortably accommodate everyone. After all, this is supposed to be a social, enjoyable, fun atmosphere and that can’t happen if everyone is squeezed tightly into a small space or can’t get into the venue, right? Therefore, you have several factors to think about ahead of time. You must consider how many guests you will be hosting. Obviously, if you have a very large party coming to your reception all small and most medium-sized locations will automatically be ruled out. Of course, you don’t want to rent out a space that is so large your small party doesn’t feel the fun atmosphere.The size of the venue must be appropriate to the number of guests you will be inviting. Another factor to take into consideration is how much you have in your budget. You want to make your wedding day memorable with the perfect setting. But you certainly don’t want to go over budget and put an undue and unnecessary strain on your new relationship right from the beginning. If there is a venue that really catches your eye, but is out of your price range and budget, ask the venue whether they offer special discounting for offseason weddings. Some venues are happy to offer a discount in return for you committing to having your wedding there during their offseason. Be sure when you are negotiating the price for having your wedding at a venue that you are certain on what you are getting. Venues will vary on what they offer, such as tables, chairs, fully-functioning bar, etc. Some venues include that in their stated prices, while others charge extra, so know what you’re getting before you commit. Be sure to think of your guests when you are choosing your wedding venue. After all, you don’t want them to have to walk a mile to use a restroom if you are having an outdoor wedding. Or make it difficult for them to get from their vehicle to the place where you’ll make your vows. Also, if small children will be there, consider whether there is ample room in case their parents need to take them elsewhere for a while to calm them down. As you can see, choosing the right wedding venue can be quite challenging, as there are many factors you must consider, both for the two of you and for your guests. You certainly don’t want to have a venue that is too small or too large for your expected number of guests. While you want your wedding day to be memorable, that doesn’t mean you have to overspend to make that happen. Who Should Be In Your Wedding Party?Deciding who should be in your wedding party is not the easiest choice to make. Chances are you likely have many people who would love to be in it, but there can be only one Maid of Honour and just a handful of bridesmaids. Likewise, there can only be one Best Man and a few groomsmen, so there are only a handful of spots available. Odds are that you have more than that number of friends, even close friends. The information below should help you to choose the best people possible to include in your wedding party. When choosing your Maid of Honour, a sister is traditionally the first choice. If you do not have a sister or have a sister you are close to, your very best friend is the next best option. Consider the person who has always stood by you, even in the toughest of times, and has told you things you didn’t want to hear, even when it was good for you to hear them. This is the person who would probably best fit the role of your Maid of Honour. Also consider that the person is responsible, as she/he will plan the bridal shower and the bachelorette party. In addition, she/he will be in charge of keeping the bridesmaids’ fittings in good running order, as well as any other tasks that the wedding couple has designated. The Maid of Honour may also be asked to give a toast at the reception. The Best Man traditionally is a brother of the groom, unless you or your partner don’t have a brother or a brother you are close to. In that case, it should be a best friend who is responsible (i.e. he shouldn’t drink too much). In some parts of North America, it is customary to choose a father to be Best Man. No matter who is chosen, it is best if the Best Man gets along well with your partner. The Best Man is expected to organize all bachelor events and provide support in whatever way is needed. This includes keeping track of the wedding rings, especially if a young ring bearer is involved. The Best Man also is expected to make a toast at the reception. Bridesmaids might be those who have a close relationship with either partner. These could include sisters, close cousins, and close friends. Including your fiancé's sister or sisters should also be considered but is not mandatory. These women will participate in all pre-wedding events, run errands, attend any tasting and site visits, and stay until the end of the reception. If they are not available for every party, that’s acceptable, though they must send gifts for the bridal shower. Groomsmen should be brothers, close cousins and close friends of either partner. These men should help to seat guests, help the Best Man throw the bachelor party and dance with the bridesmaids. You should also carefully consider who the Flower Girl and Ring Bearer would be. The Flower Girl should likely be a cousin, a niece, a godchild, or a stepchild who is between the ages of three to six years old. This is not the same as junior bridesmaids, who are older and wear tween versions of the bridesmaids’ dresses. The Ring Bearer should be a young boy who can handle the responsibility of taking care of the rings (with help from an adult. The Ring Bearer should walk down the aisle with the Flower Girl. Carefully considering who should be in your wedding party will help to ensure that the day is a memorable one for you and all involved. The people involved should be people who you are close to, who can perform the expected responsibilities and who should be able to get along with the others in the wedding party. At a time when two people want to make the ultimate commitment to spend the rest of their lives together, the desire to have personalized vows is certainly understandable. This is one of the most unique and special days in a persons life, so if you want to speak your own personal wedding vows, than by all means, you should go for it! Writing your own vows can be intimidating. Wedding days always add pressure to even the most mundane of tasks, and certainly writing the vows you want to say to your significant other in front of all your friends and family is no small matter! Still, don't let fear cause you to go along with some basic commonly used wedding vows if you really want that personalized touch. 1. Write from the heart. Your wedding day represents the epitome of love between you and your future spouse. The two of you are together for a reason. Anything you write should be honest and from your heart, because that is what will really make your words special. 2. You don't have to be Robert Frost or Emily Dickinson. If you are a poet, great. Keep in mind, though, that in the end words are just words. Your wedding vows do not have to be an amazing classic piece of literature they need to be an honest display of your feelings for the other person. Don't use long poetical words if all it does is put distance between your words and your feelings. 3. It ís okay to brainstorm. Before you set down to write everything, make a list of the things about your spouse that you absolutely love about your spouse, then make a list of the commitments you want to make. Figure out what parts of those lists you really want to include (keep in mind the vows are read in front of families and friends) and keep those. 4. Short and Sweet. It doesn't take many words or a lot of time to make your heart known to everyone present. A lot can be said in a really short time, so don't feel like you have to make the vows any longer than they naturally come out. The Importance Of Music At A Wedding
There are two aspects of wedding music that need to be addressed when planning your big day. First, you may wish to select certain music or arrange for professional soloists or musicians to play during the actual wedding ceremony. But at the wedding reception, it’s pretty much anything goes when it comes to selecting wedding music, provided it’s tasteful.
Right away is the time to plan your wedding music. Good talent gets booked fast and you don’t want to end up having to select the brand new DJ with only a few weddings under his belt or something even worse. Booking your music a full year in advance is advisable but at a minimum, you should know who will be showing up and what he or she will be playing at least six months prior to the wedding date. For most weddings, selecting the music for the wedding ceremony isn’t that complicated because most often, it’s controlled by the person in charge at the location where the ceremony will take place. When you’re researching your wedding ceremony options, be sure to inquire about any guidelines with respect to wedding ceremony music as these could possibly impact your decision. If the ceremony is being held outdoors, check for electrical hook-ups or book live musicians. Wedding music during the ceremony is basically secondary to the ceremony itself so the music is really meant to sort of ‘fill in the gaps’ during the non-speaking periods such as while guests are being seated, during the procession, and while lighting the unity candles. Of course, it’s your wedding and it can be custom-designed. The music that’s played at the reception, however, is going to mean the difference between a successful reception and one that’s ho-hum. And this is where things can start to get complicated. When you begin searching for wedding reception music, you’ll realize rather quickly that you have a lot of options. You can book a live band, or a DJ that’ll play pre-recorded music, or you can buy that CD full of top wedding songs and have someone act as the DJ. The later leaves little or no control and isn’t really suggested . It’s important that you both agree on the type of wedding music you want played at your reception. There are ‘traditional’ songs that almost always are played at certain points during the reception such as the father/daughter dance, the cake cutting, the dollar dance and so on. And then there is all the music in between. Do you want jazz, country, R&B, new age, Italian, Latin, Jewish-inspired, or a little bit of everything? That’s an important decision to make because the musicians you select have to be able to deliver what you want or you won’t be happy. Try to book experienced professionals for your wedding music. If booking live talent, arrange to hear a live performance before booking. Scrutinize the contract before signing to make sure all parties agree on the number of hours music will be provided and that everything that has been agreed to is in writing. When a couple orders the wedding bouquet, it might not seem that any “activities” will come from it other than as a thing to hold but the bouquet can be the source of many interesting activities and meaningful gestures.
During there ceremony there are all kinds of possibilities. You cold go traditional and have a flower for both the mothers .The moms, in particular, love this activity and guests usually appreciate it as well. What if you turned that traditional gesture on its head and supplied flowers for both the mothers and the fathers? If the couple supplies flowers to both the men and women, there are a couple of ways to do this. What if dad’s flower was enclosed in a verse that he will then get up and read at the ceremony? What if it was a flower to recognize the members of the family who have passed, and it gives dad an opportunity to recognize those family members? If the couple chooses not to have a unity candle, but wants some gesture like it, they can have a bouquet designed by having several small bouquets put together. At an appropriate time during the ceremony, the wedding bouquet is “broken up” and various people might receive a share, such as the mothers and fathers of the couple. Now, if the couple wants to hang onto the wedding bouquet during the wedding ceremony, but is willing to have some fun with it at the reception, there are a few options there as well. How about a dance involving the wedding bouquet? This is silly, but fun. The wedding bouquet is on display somewhere near the dance floor and guests must guess a flower that’s in the bouquet before they can enter the dance floor. The first few guests might not have a problem as some flowers are obvious, like roses and tulips, but others might give people pause. Of course, this won’t work if the bridal bouquet is all roses or some other single and obvious flower but for a traditional mixed bouquet, it can work well.For a naughty touch, the couple can hide a garter in the wedding bouquet and actually put it on before it gets taken off. Or there can have a couple of breakaway bouquets that are wrapped in garter belts, so the main one doesn’t get thrown, but instead the tiny bouquets with garter belts attached are thrown. When it comes time to throw her bouquet, there are several options. Some couples choose not to keep their bouquet and simply pluck one flower out of it before chucking the whole thing during the bouquet toss. This is an alternative to having a special bouquet set aside for throwing, and there are others as well.Are there are a lot of single women coming to the wedding? Maybe one thrown bouquet won’t be enough. Many couples these days are opting for something a little more fun.There are a few options, really. One popular option is to have the florist create several small bouquets and then bundle them to look like one bouquet. They are tied lightly with a ribbon. When it comes time for the bouquet toss, untie the ribbon, and throw the “bouquet” which is actually several little bouquets. Several people will catch the bouquet, rather than just one.
